Why "purposeful discomfort"? What does it mean? I have found that, while hard, stepping outside of my comfort-zone helps me to change my perspective of the world. It helps me become more compassionate, grow in character, and develop into the person I feel God calling me to be. Therefore, I do not want to be comfortable with who I am. I simply do not want to 'step out for stepping out's sake,' but rather strategically challenge myself in different ways ... hence purposeful discomfort.
I recently graduated from Calvin College with a degree in International Development and a minor in Environmental Studies. While at Calvin, I fell in love with Thailand after spending a semester there with the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand. (If you're interested in looking at/reading the blog I kept while there, click here.
After graduation, a dear friend shared that a small organization he worked with in Thailand was looking to hire a "project administrator." In other words, someone to take care of the business/administrative/office/representative side of the organization. After going through the application process, and lots of prayer, I was offered and accepted the position!
The hope is that I will be able to join the organization (Project:Restore) in Chiang Mai early 2014. Currently I'm living and working in Grand Rapids, MI as I raise support and work out the details of moving to Thailand for 2 years.
